To promote the health, dignity and independence of people in our community in need of nutritious meals.
At Meals on Wheels Tralee we are committed to this vital community service that provides nutritious meals and a lifeline to some of the most vulnerable members of society. For many elderly, disabled, or homebound individuals, Meals on Wheels is their primary, and sometimes only, source of reliable, nutritious meals delivered right to their door.
Beyond the food itself, the regular visits from Meals on Wheels volunteers offer important social interaction and a wellness check for clients who may otherwise be isolated and cut off from their community. For those with limited mobility or transportation options, Meals on Wheels enables them to maintain their independence and continue living at home. Meals on Wheels not only addresses the basic need for nourishment, but it also helps to improve health outcomes, reduce hospital readmissions, and enhance the overall quality of life for its recipients.
In many ways, this unassuming meal delivery program is an essential thread in the social safety net, offering a simple yet profound service that makes an immense difference in the lives of those it serves.
Meals on Wheels Tralee was established in 1970 through St. Vincent de Paul to provide freshly prepared meals to our Clients 52 weeks of the year.
We have distributed over 75,000 meals since 2020. We currently deliver an average of 17,000 meals annually, while also providing contact with people who live alone who may not have any visitors. We also promote the welfare and well-being of the elderly, vulnerable and people in need.
