Meals on Wheels Tralee & Community Café
We are volunteer run with part time chefs and generous volunteers who selflessly give up their time to support the service.
It was established in 1970 in Tralee to provide meals that are freshly cooked and delivered to our clients in Tralee and the surrounding area, 52 weeks of the year.
We have distributed over 75,000 meals since 2020. We currently deliver an average of 17,000 meals annually, while also providing contact with people who live alone who may not have any visitors. We also promote the welfare and well-being of the elderly, vulnerable and people in need.
Meals on Wheels Tralee has introduced the Re-turn Bottle and Can initiative to raise essential funds to support our services, including a special Free Christmas Day Dinner for the local community. This initiative encourages local businesses and organisations to recycle used bottles and cans that features the Re-turn logo.
The program not only helps fund daily meal deliveries to those who require our service, but also aligns with sustainable environmental practices by promoting recycling within the Tralee area. By participating in the Re-turn scheme, local businesses can contribute to a greener community while ensuring continued support for Meals on Wheels and the annual Christmas dinner, which provides a warm meal and companionship for those who might otherwise spend Christmas Day alone.
Volunteers every Wednesday and Saturday visit all registered local businesses and organisations to collect the Re-turn Bottle and Cans each week.
